NY MD: It’s effective for seriously ill coronavirus patients & ignored by the media

We’re seeing more and more  “Stay Home Orders” across the nation…

A World Health Organization official said that the U.S. has the potential to become the new epicenter of the global crisis. “We are now seeing a very large acceleration in cases in the U.S.,” WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said.  

The National Guard deployed to three states: California, New York and Washington…

And we’re not 100% sure when, where or how this ends.

As the lockdown progresses, it gets more challenging and risky to get the basic necessities we took for granted a few short weeks ago.

And buried in recent headlines, on March 24, 2020 the New York Post reported megadoses of Vitamin C are being given to seriously ill patients…

Seriously sick coronavirus patients in New York state’s largest hospital system are being given massive doses of vitamin C — based on promising reports that it’s helped people in hard-hit China, The Post has learned.

Dr. Andrew G. Weber, a pulmonologist and critical-care specialist affiliated with two Northwell Health facilities on Long Island, said his intensive-care patients with the coronavirus immediately receive 1,500 milligrams of intravenous vitamin C.

Identical amounts of the powerful antioxidant are then readministered three or four times a day, he said.

Each dose is more than 16 times the National Institutes of Health’s daily recommended dietary allowance of vitamin C, which is just 90 milligrams for adult men and 75 milligrams for adult women.

The regimen is based on experimental treatments administered to people with the coronavirus in Shanghai, China, Weber said.

“The patients who received vitamin C did significantly better than those who did not get vitamin C,” he said.

“It helps a tremendous amount, but it is not highlighted because it’s not a sexy drug.”

This is exciting news! 


To answer that, we need to travel back in time to North Carolina in the 1940’s to meet Dr. Frederick Robert Klenner, a board certified chest physician. 

In the 40s and 50s and 60s, Dr. Klenner gave massive doses of Vitamin C to his critically ill patients…

As much as 50,000 to 60,000 (mg) of Vitamin C a day!

The results?

Dr. Klenner reported curing viral pneumonia in 48 to 72 hours. [1]

Dr. Robert Fulton Cathcart III, an orthopedic surgeon out in California in the 60s and 70s and 80s took it even further.

Learning of Klenner’s work with vitamin C as an antiviral, and his success treating viral pneumonia and similar illnesses… 

Cathcart started using Vitamin C for things like acute hepatitis, killer influenzas and ultimately, AIDS. 

Cathcart gave up to 200,000 milligrams of vitamin C a day!

Now this is interesting because when you take that much, you ask yourself, “Am I taking too much? Am I taking enough or am I overdosing?” [2]

Cathcart developed the principle for how each of us can determine how much Vitamin C we can effectively take, tolerate and benefit from. 

It’s called “bowel tolerance.”

Simply put, Dr Cathcart’s approach was to take as much vitamin C as you can hold at any given time, without having loose stool.

10,000 – 20,000 milligrams is how much most people can take in divided doses daily, but 100,000 (mg) has been used effectively to treat influenza and the patients did not get loose stools so it depends on the individual. 

Now, we don’t need that much Vitamin C every day when we’re healthy, however, when we have an illness our need for Vitamin C goes up exponentially.  

And because we’re not like the many animals which make their own Vitamin C, we have to get ours from food or supplements. 

Specifically, our options on the market today are…

  1. Intravenously 
  2. Food Based 
  3. Ascorbic Acid
  4. Liposomal 

Let’s look at the differences.


Intravenous Vitamin C is an option for people who don’t want to or can’t consume high amounts orally. And it has the advantage of going right into the bloodstream, so the absorption rate is 100%. 

The research suggests it’s only at high levels that vitamin C works as an antiviral, an antihistamine, and has all the other properties that we’re talking about. 

So if a person is severely ill, this may be the best approach to rapidly reach and maintain those levels.

But if you’re looking to avoid the needle, even oral doses can get you to very high blood levels of vitamin C.  

Food Based 

People that are into whole food plant-based diets would tell you that you can eat lots of fruits and vegetables in their fresh, organic, unprocessed state and get quite a lot of vitamin C… and they’re correct.  

Now can they get enough to treat pneumonia or hepatitis… or to stop the symptoms of AIDS? 

According to Dr. Saul, the answer is, no. 

He doesn’t believe it’s possible for someone who is severely sick to reach these levels without a supplement of Vitamin C.  

If you’re in good health, it’s ideal to get your vitamin C from food. 

The only problem is cost. 

If you take a look at what fresh produce costs, particularly if it’s organic, an orange could be 50 cents or a dollar, possibly more. Grapefruit can be a dollar or more, and the vitamin C level in grapefruit is substantial and the food is good for you.

It’s tasty, it has fiber, bioflavonoids and many other beneficial compounds. There’s all kinds of good reasons to eat these whole, fresh fruits! 

But in terms of Vitamin C, it’s roughly 400 times cheaper per milligram to buy vitamin C supplements. SO: 

Eat all the fresh fruits, whole, unprocessed, non-GMO, organic foods you possibly can…

AND take vitamin C supplements!

Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic acid is the most common form of Vitamin C. 

It’s cheap and it works. 

There’s a lot of negativity towards ascorbic acid out there and people saying that’s not really vitamin C. (That it’s not effective). 

Dr. Saul disagrees wholeheartedly with that, and points to the research demonstrated by Linus Pauling (who won two Nobel prizes).  

Dr Pauling was very clear on the effectiveness of ascorbic acid.

Just keep in mind that many pills sold at grocery stores often go undigested and therefore are not absorbed by your body.

Liposomal Vitamin C
